In 2025 together with Project Awe in Mai Châu, Hòa Bình, we ran a 4 day intensive course delving deep into soil regeneration. The course combined both theory and practice, and focused on soil science as well as climate and place appropriate techniques to regenerate the soil.

Participants explored the chemical, physical and biological components of soil, the mechanisms of soil formation and erosion, as well as techniques to reverse soil damage and boost regeneration. They also learnt how to do basic soil tests to analyse soil health and soil type.

These techniques included propagating indigenous microorganisms (IMO), arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), lactobacillus bacteria (LAB), making compost with added minerals, mulching, intercropping and biochar.
